Cancer Research UK Charity Shop Challenge

Charity Shop Challenge

Cancer Research UK Charity Shop Challenge

In February 2024, employees from Amey South-West Trunk Roads volunteered their time at Cancer Research UK stores in Partick and Paisley to take part in a Charity Shop Challenge.

The first part of the challenge involved sorting through bags of donations and pricing them, ready to be put out on the shop floor for sale. These items had to be checked for damage and quality and an appropriate price chosen. In Partick, Catherine Gordon and Salwa Kamaruddin sorted through 40 bags of donations and prepared 172 items for sale. In the Paisley Superstore, Mark Williams, Olubunmi Adedire, and Amy McAteer each took on rails of clothing, managing to sort through 100 items of women’s clothing, 88 items of men’s clothing, and over 200 items of children’s clothing.

For the second part of the challenge in Partick, Catherine and Salwa merchandised four mannequins and three gondola top displays as well as attending to customers within the shop. In Paisley, the team prepped four trolleys of homewares ready for sale.

Jane Dempster, General Manager of the Paisley Superstore said: “Paisley Superstore would like to thank the Amey team: Amy, Mark, and Bunmi, for all their support. Volunteering is a key part of fundraising for us, and we couldn’t achieve the funds for life-saving research without this support. We appreciate everything you have done. On the day, you helped us to raise an amazing £1,139. Thank you!”

Sarah Johnson, Manager of the Partick store said: “So glad Catherine enjoyed the day, she was fantastic and lovely to work with, we didn't want her to leave. Salwa is here now and just as splendid! We will gladly take anyone you can send to volunteer anytime.”

Many thanks to the team for their time and participation to help Amey’s chosen charity partner and we hope to organise further Charity Shop Challenges throughout the year.
