Amey Golf Fundraising Day

Fundraising for Ava Bolton

On Friday 16th June 2023, the Amey Ayr depot held their annual golf day at Ballochmyle Golf Club in East Ayrshire. The day was set up as a memorial for our friend and colleague Derek Laird who passed away in August 2021 from cancer and is an opportunity to fundraise for causes important to the team

This year, the event was in aid of 3-year-old Ava Bolton, whose family are fundraising for her to receive neuroblastoma treatment that can only be provided in America after she was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive and rare childhood cancer.

The team organised 17 prizes for the fundraising raffle with prizes ranging from a case of beer to a 4 Ball for Ballochmyle Golf Course, raising an enormous £660. All prizes were handed out by Derek’s brother George Laird.

Congratulations to the winners on the day: James Jamieson who won the The Derek Laird Memorial Trophy, Stewart Cuthbertson for the Longest Drive (Sponsored by Drumclog Plant Hire), Derek Cunningham won closest to the pin at the 5th Hole (Sponsored by Drumclog Plant Hire), Donald Ferguson  won closest to the pin at the 14th Hole (Sponsored by Complete Weed Control), and Alan Brownlee won closest to the pin at 17th Hole (Sponsored by The Black Bull Hotel, Tarbolton).

Colin Stewart from Operations said: ‘It was such a fantastic day, made even better with the lovely sunny weather! Ballochmyle Golf Club went over and above with their hospitality, and the course itself is challenging but very well maintained. We decided on a golf outing for Derek as it was a perfect opportunity to bring former colleagues, friends, and family together to reminisce about this man’s outstanding life.’

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and for all the donations from sub-contractors and the surrounding community!
